Ghostbusters: Original theme singer Ray Parker Jr is not keen on the new song
Fall Out Boy teamed up with Missy Elliott to record a new take on the 1984 classic
Ray Parker Jr has revealed that he is less than impressed with the new Ghostbusters theme by Fall out Boy and Missy Elliott.
The singer behind the Grammy-winning 1984 original was left “wishing the filmmakers had called him” after hearing new version “Ghostbusters (I’m Not Afraid)” from Paul Feig’s all-female reboot.
“I wish they had called me to maybe work with some of the younger guys and help them get a direction,” he told Inside Edition when asked for his take on the “interesting” song. “I’m not going to say it’s good or bad. I’m just going to say, ‘Well, maybe I’m an old guy now, and I like it the old way’.”

Ghostbusters, starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, arrived in UK cinemas on Monday after months of hype (and a far amount of sexist backlash).
Reviews have been largely positive so far but with the film not due in US cinemas until Friday, it remains to be seen how well it will perform at the global box office.
Producer and former Sony head Amy Pascal said at the Ghostbusters premiere on Saturday that there will be “endless” sequels in the new franchise, while current chairman Tom Rothman argued that criticism of the revamp had been “great” for publicity.
