Rogue One to feature seven-minute Dunkirk preview in 70mm IMAX
Star Wars fans will be treated to an extended look at Christopher Nolan’s next film
Those venturing to see the new Star Wars film Rogue One in 70mm IMAX will be granted an extra treat in the form of a seven-minute preview of Christopher Nolan's next film Dunkirk.
Fifteen cinema screens around the world will be showing Gareth Edwards’s Star Wars prequel in the format and, according to SlashFilm, will be offering a first full glimpse at Warner Bros' upcoming Second World War drama.
Last month, it was announced that Dunkirk's digital release would be preceded by a 19 July premiere in cinemas that still project celluloid, a known move from Nolan who is a strong advocate for film stock.
Dunkirk – which is released elsewhere 21 July – tells the true story of Operation Dynamo, a daring plan to rescue 300,000 Allied troops who were surrounded by Nazis soldiers in Dunkirk during the Second World War. The film stars Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, Fionn Whitehead and One Direction singer Harry Styles.
Rogue One is the first of three planned Star Wars prequels.
The story – following Felicity Jones’s Jyn Erso, who leads a team of rebels in a plot to steal plans for the Death Star – takes place ahead of events depicted in Episode IV: A New Hope. Reviews are yet to be released but the original's director George Lucas has offered his verdict.
Rogue One will be released 16 December.
