Christopher Nolan's latest movie, Interstellar, is hoping to entice Anne Hathaway (above) aboard to star alongside Matthew McConaughey. Although under lock and key, the movie is written by Nolan and his brother Jonathan, based on scientific theories developed by Kip Thorne, a real-life theoretical physicist.

Kung-Fu fighting gets Fox backing

Taiwanese writer-turned-director Giddens Ko has attracted backing from Fox International Productions for Kung Fu. A follow-up to his 2011 hit, You Are the Apple of My Eye, Kung Fu follows a high-school student's fascination with martial-arts novels and how they changed his teenage life, based on one of Ko's own novels.

A new haunt for Cumberbatch

Benedict Cumberbatch has scared up a role alongside Emma Stone and Charlie Hunnam in Guillermo del Toro's haunted-house thriller Crimson Peak. Set for February 2014, the gothic horror centres on a woman who discovers that her husband might not be whom he appears to be.

Carrey answers call of comedy

Jim Carrey is to breathe life into Ricky Stanicky. Steve Oedekerk, who drafted Carrey's Bruce Almighty and directed the comedian in Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, will direct. The story is about three friends who create Ricky Stanicky as an alibi for bad behaviour and end up having to hire an out-of-work actor to play him.

Prometheus man all fired up again

Prometheus co-writer Jon Spaihts has been hired to kickstart Disney's reinvention of its 1979 sci-fi movie The Black Hole. The project has Joe Kosinski – the film-maker behind Tom Cruise sci-fi Oblivion –attached to direct. The Black Hole was the most expensive movie Disney ever made when released in 1979.

Twilight star in Herculean task

Kellan Lutz will star as Hercules in director Renny Harlin's project about the Greek demigod. Lutz is billed as one of the more popular co-stars of The Twilight Saga. The movie is one of two high-profile Hercules movies being made by Hollywood studios, the second being a version with Dwayne Johnson as the hero.
