Hook's Lost Boys reunion shines a light on how Peter Pan's friends have aged

The cast came together to recreate some of their characters' most memorable moments for the film's 25th anniversary

It's hard to imagine any childhood untouched by the idle daydream of becoming a Lost Boy, a child entirely rid of tiresome chores and responsibilities.

A daydream only fuelled when J.M. Barrie's classic story was brought to screen in an intriguing spin in 1991's Hook, giving its Lost Boys the kind of light punk aesthetic that any kid would think was the edgiest, coolest thing they'd ever seen.

It's now been 25 years since the Robin Williams-starring, Peter Pan sequel hit screens, and the actors who played the original Lost Boys gang have all reunited for a deeply nostalgic photoshoot to celebrate the occasion; recreating some of the film's most iconic moments, including the imaginary food fight, neon splatters and all.

Entertainment Tonight went behind the scenes on the photoshoot, discovering what it's like for a cast to reunite after so many years have passed. "We haven't seen each other in quite some time but I almost feel like there was no lost time," James Madio (who played Don't Ask) said. "We just picked it up right away where we were and just reminiscing about everything. It's just really cool."

The Lost Boys group was made up of actors between six and 17, many of whom were embarking on their first ever onscreen role; the youngest of whom, Thomas Tulak (who played Too Small), now reflects, "I had no idea the gravity of what was going on. I was just playing around, you know."

The opportunity also saw the cast back in versions of their original costumes, including Dante Basco (Rufio)'s classic feathered mohawk, ripped jeans, and bare midriff.

"You have to understand, when you're 15 and you're doing this Steven Spielberg movie with megastars-- Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman, Julia Roberts-- you know you want to be cool," he joked. "I don’t know how cool I’m going to look with my belly button out! I mean, through the months it grew on me and now, I mean, years later it's become this iconic, iconic look that people cosplay around the world."

The photoshoot marks the endeavour of 22 Vision, the production company responsible for reuniting several iconic young casts over the years, including The Little Rascals and School of Rock. Its CEO, Brian Pocrass, spent the last two years attempting to reunite the Lost Boys in time to celebrate Hook's 25th anniversary.

“Hook is just one of those movies that people really grew up on,” he said. “To get them together to remember Robin [Williams] and celebrate this milestone is something that I loved being a part of.”

Indeed, the tribute also marks the second anniversary of Williams' death, adding an extra air of poignancy to the reunion. "I think for all of us [Robin’s death] was the death of our childhood," Basco said. "There's sadness there, also there's a lot of space to kinda celebrate one of the most legendary artists of our time."

"[Robin] really taught me at a young age what it means to be a star, what it means to be a leader on a set," he continued. "Everything you want Robin Williams to be he delivered in spades."
