It's set to the familiar riff of Iggy Pop’s 'Lust for Life'

Trainspotting 2, or T2, as it’s officially known, has debuted a first teaser trailer.

It’s essentially a first image or first GIF really, showing little more than Spud, Renton, Sick Boy and Begbie standing on a platform as a train rattles past, a nod to a scene from the original.

There isn’t a huge amount to glean here, though I guess we can rule out some huge change in luck for the friends, who look as downtrodden as ever.

The sequel is based on Irvine Welsh’s 2002 novel Porno and is set to hit cinemas on 27 January, 2017.

“I feel very fortunate and grateful to be able to make films, and to be able to always have a choice in what I do,” director Danny Boyle previously said of the film.

“Coming back to Edinburgh has actually been really fascinating, since filming the first Trainspotting Edinburgh has changed dramatically. You can see the gentrification massively in the city.”

Ewan McGregor returns as Mark "Rent Boy" Renton, Ewen Bremner as Daniel "Spud" Murphy, Jonny Lee Miller as Simon "Sick Boy" Williamson and Robert Carlyle as Francis "Franco" Begbie.
