Frankenweenie, from the science teacher who resembles Vincent Price to the Stepford Wives-looking suburban neighbourhood, is the closest in spirit to Tim Burton's 1990 masterpiece Edward Scissorhands.
A little boy, Victor Frankenstein, loses his beloved dog in a car accident, so naturally he brings Sparky back to life with a lightning bolt. The townsfolk react badly. Burton's droll black-and-white animation admonishes ignorance and promotes, as always, the lonely oddball. It's Burton's finest film in some time.
