DVD: Date Night (15)
Friday 10 September 2010
The wonderful Tina Fey and Steve Carell star in this old-fashioned screwball comedy.
The comic duo play Claire and Phil, exhausted suburban marrieds, with two small children, who only get to talk to each other properly on their weekly "date night", on which they, invariably, mock couples at other dinner tables. However, after bagging someone else's table at a desperately hip Manhattan bistro they become involved in a deadly (well, sort of) case of mistaken identity. Date Night has a healthy momentum to it – it doesn't resort to a series of tiresome "action" scenes – and it, pleasingly, apes Eighties gems such as Into the Night and Desperately Seeking Susan.
