Planes 2: Fire And Rescue (3D), film review: Disney's creaky plot takes a while to take off
(U) Bobs Gannaway, 83 mins Featuring voices of: Dane Cook, Ed Harris, Julie Bowen, Curtis Armstrong
This Disney cartoon is running on empty. Its plot is as creaky as Dusty Crophopper's damaged gearbox, which stops the doughty little plane from racing and forces him to retrain as a firefighter.
For all the energy of the voice work, the trucks, helicopters and planes remain inexpressive and unsatisfactory as heroes.
Only in the final reel, when a spectacular forest fire breaks out and Dusty finally shows his mettle, does the storytelling take wing.
