Arctic Monkeys rep confirms band aren't back in the studio just yet

A fanmade image suggesting inide rock'n'rollers Arctic Monkeys were heading back into the studio caused quite a stir earlier this week.

The photo circulated social media on Tuesday evening (16 August) and appeared to confirm the band - led by frontman Alex Turner - would begin working on a sixth album this September.

A press representative declined to comment on the rumour when asked by NME, but has since provided an update to The Independent.

Unfortunately, it's not good news for fans.

"That tweet that has caused the stir about the band being back in the studio was posted by a fan, using photoshopped artwork. We’ve got no news about the band being in the studio at this point at all."

A further quote was provided, stating: "It won’t be in the very near future, though."

Turner is currently completing a busy touring schedule alongside Miles Kane after reforming to release second Last Shadow Puppets record, Everything You've Come to Expect, which hit the top of the UK albums chart in May.

Following their performance at Glastonbury 2016, Turner told Radio X that he was in "no rush" to get back into the studio with his Arctic Monkeys bandmates including drummer Matt Helders, bassist Nick O'Malley and guitarist Jamie Cook.

Their latest release - AM - became the Sheffield-hailing band's fifth consecutive number one upon its release in September 2013.

The wait to see whether they can make it six for six continues indefinitely.
