Awards ceremony saw 33 couples get married as Beatles reunited on stage

It was another bizarre night at the Grammys, from Taylor Swift head-banging at the piano, to a mass wedding officiated by Queen Latifah, and, as ever, too much of Beyonce’s derrière.

Beyonce and husband Jay Z opened the 56th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles with a raunchy performance of the singer’s new song “Drunk in Love”.

Queen Bey took a leaf out of Rihanna’s book, writhing around on a wooden chair in a leather thong and fishnet tights before getting on all fours and crawling around on stage.

Jay-Z then joined Beyonce on stage and fondled her as the two got up close and personal to sing the song to each other.

In another unusual but less smouldering Grammys performance, 33 couples, some of whom were same-sex partners, got hitched to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ “Same Love” in a ceremony officiated by Queen Latifah.

Dressed in a white suit and cowboy hat, Madonna joined the rap duo and Latifah on stage for the performance of the song, which addresses gay and lesbian rights.

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift got the Twittersphere talking after head-banging at the piano during her performance of slushy love ballad “All Too Well”.

The country pop singer was also caught on camera looking gobsmacked after thinking she was going to win for Album of the Year, which went instead to Daft Punk for Random Access Memories.

Swift went home empty-handed last night, with Daft Punk, Lorde, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Pharrell Williams winning big instead.

Williams raised eyebrows with his wardrobe choice, donning a huge brown felt hat that could have easily contained his three Grammys awards.

The said hat has already been dubbed the unofficial winner of the night, with many joking it looked like the sorting hat from the Harry Potter books.

In another unexpected twist, Sir Paul McCartney picked up the Best Rock Song Grammy with Dave Grohl and the surviving members of Nirvana for “Cut Me Some Slack”, which featured on the Sound City: Real to Real soundtrack.

Beatles bandmates Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr also reunited on stage to perform Sir Paul’s song “Queenie Eye”.

Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison, the widow of the late George Harrison, were in attendance at the awards and presented the Grammy to Daft Punk for Album of the Year.

It was announced earlier in the evening that The Beatles will receive the 2014 Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award next month.
