Stone Roses fans fooled by lemon posters for Clone Roses in Doncaster

Rumours have been circulating that the Stone Roses would play a warm-up gig in Doncaster ahead of their 2016 live dates.

Fans were speculating the band would play the Diamond Live Lounge after posters of their iconic lemon appeared around the city, much like they did in Manchester earlier this year.

Unfortunately, it has since been confirmed that the real Stone Roses won’t be playing a warm up show anytime soon at the venue, instead tribute band The Clone Roses will be.

Live Lounge owner Dominic Gibbs wrote on Facebook: “After the craziness of yesterday I thought I should write an early message to our supporters and the supporters of a certain iconic band from over Lancashire.

“We don’t have the Stone Roses, sorry. We have the Clone Roses, an amazing tribute to the superb original.”

Gibbs went on to say the whole thing was a marketing campaign to raise awareness of the venue, deciding to ‘clone’ the Stone Roses famous lemon.

“I have to admit, I never thought it would go as big as it did. It was purely a marketing strategy and publicity stunt. I apologise if anyone feels tricked, cheated or deceived.”

Meanwhile, the real Stone Roses are set to play six dates next year, four at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium, a headline show at T in the Park, and a show at Marlay Park in Dublin.

Rumours of an album are currently circulating, with bookies currently offering 12/1 odds that - if an album does appear - it will win the Mercury Prize.
