Tool frontman thinks Tool fans are ‘insufferable retards’, was conned into return gig
'I’m sorry. Can’t help them.'
Tool will reunite for a single performance in November when they headline the Monster Mash Music Festival in Tempe, Arizona, but frontman Maynard James Keenan isn’t particularly looking forward to it.
Asked whether he had to corral the other band members for the show, he told told Phoenix New Times: “No, they had to con me into it.”
These days, Keenan prefers to focus on his wine business, with PNT noting that ‘any time he’s asked about Tool, his answers quickly become curt. A hint of exasperation creeps into his voice and he exhales heavily through his nose.’
The newspaper ploughed on though, asking him about the humour in Tool’s albums.
“Yeah, it’s there, but people miss it because they’re so focused on the other bullshit,” he said.
“It’s lost. Insufferable people … It’s just ridiculous, retards. I’m sorry. Can’t help them. Way too serious. Too much. Lighten up.”
As for a new Tool album?
“There’s nothing to say. I can’t.”
