Known for Tory Boyz at the Soho Theatre about homosexuality in the Conservative Party, the playwright, from a mining village in Nottinghamshire, worked on the stage door of a local theatre when he submitted his first play at 21. “It feels like a slow bubble. I think other writers burst on to the scene fast, but the National feels like the next big step.”
