Chris Moyles targets 37-hour Radio 1 record
Monday 28 February 2011
He's used to an early start, but Chris Moyles is planning to forgo sleep by broadcasting for more than 37 hours.
The Radio 1 breakfast show DJ is attempting to smash the record for the station's longest show.
Moyles, 37, and his sidekick Comedy Dave will front each show in the station's schedule, with the regular DJ as guest, to raise cash for Red Nose Day.
Moyles said: "In 2009 I broke the record for being the longest-serving breakfast DJ on Radio 1, so I thought, why not go for broadcasting the longest radio show on Radio 1 too.
"Of course I'm worried about what the lack of sleep will do to me, but the pain will be worth it if we can raise a fortune for Comic Relief."
Comedy Dave joked: "I'd love to say I'm really excited about it, but every time we talk about the project I feel tired and start yawning."
The pair will be able to take a five-minute break each hour, which they can save up to have a longer sleep later on.
The current record for the station's longest show stands at 37 hours and was set by Simon Mayo for Comic Relief in 1999.
The stunt starts on March 16 at 6.30am.
