Game of Thrones season 6: The reason Ramsay hugged his father before stabbing him shows he's as smart as he is maniacal

Ramsay Bolton is reckless, yes, but he’s not stupid.

While the murder of his father in episode 2 might have seemed a snap decision, it was a little more carefully thought out than it initially looked.

As a Reddit user pointed out, if you go back and watch the death scene, you can see that Ramsay doesn’t hug Roose just because it is expected of him, or simply to get close enough to attack him - he’s feeling for chainmail.

Ramsay’s fingers search for metal links, a menacing look in his eyes.

It might be complacency that is the legitimised bastard’s downfall however, judging by the preview of his meeting with the allied House Umber in episode 3.

Ramsay is expected to ride to the Wall - or at least send soldiers there - next episode, where he/they will no doubt get more than they bargained for thanks to the resurrection of a certain Lord Commander and Stark heir.
