Netflix reveals top 20 series binge watched in first 24 hours

A staggering 8.4 million subscribers have consumed an entire series within 24 hours

Netflix has always shrouded itself in a level of secrecy when it comes to viewing figures - a safeguard, perhaps, which shields them against public disappointment if one of their highly-touted projects flop.

One thing, however, that they'll proudly unveil is the number of subscribers who have succumbed to the ever-present allure of what they've termed the 'binge racer', with a staggering 8.4 million having consumed an entire series within 24 hours.

A practice that Netflix states has been around since its inception, but that's particularly gained steam from 2013 onwards, with the number of binge racers increasing more than 20 times over.

"There’s a unique satisfaction that comes from being the first to finish a story -- whether it's the final page of a book or the last, climactic moments of your favorite TV show," said Brian Wright, Vice President, Original Series.

"Netflix allows you to watch in a way you never could before, and there's nothing better than seeing a show engage our members and ignite a passion for viewing."

Netflix has, in response, unveiled a list of the top 20 Netflix originals with seasons watched within the first 24 hours.

4. The Seven Deadly Sins
5. The Ranch
6. Santa Clarita Diet
7. Trailer Park Boys
8. F is for Family
9. Orange Is the New Black
10. Stranger Things
11. Friends from College
12. Atypical
13. Grace and Frankie
14. Wet Hot American Summer
15. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
16. House of Cards
17. Love
18. GLOW
19. Chewing Gum
20. Master of None

A top 20 specifically for UK viewers has also been released.
