Game of Thrones: George RR Martin has a great idea for a Westworld crossover

'It’s flattering he would encourage a crossover. We should be so lucky'

Before Westworld debuted on HBO, many publications - including ourselves - heralded the show as the ‘next Game of Thrones’, never predicting any real crossover between the two. However, author George R.R. Martin has already acknowledged how a crossover may feasibly happen.

In short, the TV series Westworld is based on the 1973 sci-fi film of the same name; in that feature-length flick, there are multiple android-filled theme parks, including Roman World and Medieval World. See where we’re going here?

According to Westworld’s showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, Martin put forward the idea of Westeros World over dinner months before the show debuted.

“We love George and our daughter’s first trip anywhere in the world was out to Santa Fe for a screening of The Prestige at his theatre, the Jean Cocteau,” Nolan told EW. “He’s a lovely guy and a stunning writer and it’s flattering he would encourage a crossover. We should be so lucky.”

Joy noted there was one overarching problem, though: “I need to be believe that dragons are real. I want them be a real thing. So as much as I love George, I can’t lose that for myself!”

Previously, Nolan has spoken about the possibility of featuring other android parks in future seasons of Westworld, but they likely won’t be Roman World and Medieval World. Perhaps Harry Potter World? Sounds like a legal nightmare.

Recently, a list of the eleven ways humans have died in the Westworld park was released by HBO, featuring some interesting inclusions such as Tumbleweeds and Self-cannibalism.
