Eddie Redmayne and Miles Teller set a red carpet trend in navy suits, while Jared Leto shook things up in a baby blue tuxedo

The world’s eyes might have been firmly on the glamorous gowns parading the Oscars’ red carpet on Sunday, but the men aren't without mention too.

While many of the gents played it safe with classic black suits, a few others pushed the boat out, with versions in white, grey and baby blue.

But the overriding trend of the night was a navy and black colour combination. Actors Eddie Redmayne, Ansel Elgort and Miles Teller all suited up in similarly dark blue tuxes on the Oscars red carpet.

The trio of young actors decided to shake things up and ditch the traditional black tux, but as to a fair few other attendees. Their tuxedos were dark blue with black lapels, and almost identical to one another.

Teller’s and Elgort’s suits were both from Prada, while award-winner Redmayne donned Alexander McQueen.

However, as expected, it was Jared Leto who dared to be different and took his look to the next level appearing on the red carpet in a baby blue tuxedo with satin lapels, teamed with white lace-up shoes.

American actor and the night’s host Neil Patrick Harris followed in a light grey flannel tuxedo and tie by Brunello Cucinelli. And in keeping with the biggest womenswear trend of the evening - white dresses - the men also looked good in white on the red carpet, including Jay Z, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jeff Goldblum, Adrien Brody and Eddie Murphy.
