The best new gym kit: From M&S Autograph to DP Active

The midway point of January is here and most people fall into one of two camps – the first steaming ahead with their New Year detox plans, while the second have already fallen off the dry-January wagon. The latter should probably stop reading now.

January, a time for reinvention, is also coincidentally the best time to restock your gym kit – qand what better person for inspiration than Rosie Huntington-Whiteley? The model/actress/all-round glamazon has added to her M&S Autograph range with a debut activewear collection (1 - see gallery below). More wearable and in softer colours than your usual sporty togs, it's ideal if – like me – you'll probably end up using it for loungewear.

Dorothy Perkins has also caught the fitness bug, releasing its own sportswear line, DP Active (2). From cropped tops to leggings, there's everything you need for your athletic pursuits – and in the traditional jazzy gym shades with fluoro pink and purple accents. Prices hover around the £20 mark, which is handy if your new sporty lifestyle doesn't stick.

Any keen sportsman knows that having the right gear is essential; for the fairer sex, that means considering investing in a sports bra. Top of my list is Triumph's Triaction style (3), which has all the support you'll need for even the most extreme of sports.
