In the run-up to Christmas more and more consumers are turning to the world of internet retail to find that perfect gift. While some US-based stores will ship products internationally, many will not, leaving customers frustrated and empty-handed.
However, a solution is available through websites such as MyaddressUS.com, My US and Shipito. These websites and others like them act as a forwarding service for consumers outside of the United States. When shopping on websites that do not ship internationally, shoppers can simply fill in a US mailing address which is provided by the forwarding website; the package is then sent to that company and then, for a price, forwarded on to the original buyer.
Although services such as these allow consumers to take advantage of a weaker dollar, the majority of consumers are turning towards regional subsidiaries of retail giants such as Amazon and eBay. Regional subsidiaries of these websites - amazon.co.uk or ebay.com.au for example - are consistently the most visited websites across Australia, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Singapore according to data from market monitoring company Experian Hitwise.
