Best-selling PC download games of the week: APB unfazed by critical reception

The Steam Network digital download chart for the week ending Sunday, July 18, though topped by a Modern Warfare 2 expansion, showed that APB's initial review scores haven't turned away customers as it rose to 2nd place.

A price comparison shows that MW2's Resurgence Pack has sold far more than APB. The top ten chart is based on revenues generated by each title, meaning that based on full-price sales, the Resurgence Pack was bought 3.5 times as much as APB.

Still, APB's studio has committed to supporting the game for at least three years, meaning that players can take the plunge just as much in response to potential improvements as to word-of-mouth recommendation.

Though playing solo can be a crushing experience, those that team up with friends testify to the good times found - they may have been comprehensively destroyed by the cops or robbers on an opposing team, but something about the social experience seems to stack up.

Blacklight: Tango Down in fifth offers an alternative to MW2 for not much more than the Resurgence Pack's asking price. It's multiplayer only and, though there's no big innovation, all the standard modes are there - though perhaps without those crucial coats of polish seen in a full-price offering.

Meanwhile Transformers: War for Cybertron has surprised many gamers with its quality - especially considering the recent film tie-ins - and has the makings of a cult favorite.

01) Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Resurgence Pack
02) APB - All Points Bulletin
03) Battlefield: Bad Company 2
04) Disciples III - Renaissance Steam Special Edition
05) Blacklight: Tango Down
06) Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
07) Transformers: War for Cybertron
08) Team Forterss 2
09) Sniper: Ghost Warrior
10) Counter-Strike: Source
Chart positions reflect total revenue gained by the Steam Network.
