It’s all in the mind as Capcom announces Remember Me

Capcom debut an all-new action-adventure at Gamescom where knowledge is most definitely power.

Capcom’s Gamescom 2012 press event focused laregly on known announced titles, the likes DmC, Resident Evil 6 and Lost Planet 3. One interesting announcement however was that of Remember Me, an action-adventure set in the far flung year of 2084 being developed by DONTNOD Entertainment.

It seems that in the future memories will be digitised, bought, sold and traded, with the last remnants of privacy and intimacy being summarily swept away in what the developers see as a ‘logical progression’ of the explosive growth of social networks we’re currently witnessing. The citizens of Remember Me’s Neo-Paris setting accepting this so-called 'surveillance society' in exchange for the comfort only smart technology can provide.

With themes reminiscent of Total Recall and Inception, players take on the role of Nilin, a former elite memory hunter with the ability to break into people’s minds and steal, or even alter, their memories. Apparently the authorities, fearful of her knowledge and capabilities, arrest Nilin and wipe her memory clean, so leaving her with no choice but to set out on a mission to recover her identity.

looks like an interesting premise to me, one bringing to mind Mirror’s Edge, Deus Ex, perhaps with hints of Uncharted. See what you think in the announcement trailer.

Remember Me is slated for a May 2013 release for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
