Huawei announces world's thinnest phone - the Ascend P6
New handset to launch in the UK in June will be just 6.18mm thick
Huawei have announced the launch of their new phone, the Ascend P6. At just 6.18mm, the P6 is the world’s slimmest phone.
The handset will be part of the Chinese telecom giant’s first global product launch as it looks to capture a share of the ever-diversifying smartphone market.
The P6 trumpets its high-end features and is constructed from metal and glass (unlike Samsung, which often uses plastic in building its phone). Huawei are also pushing their own version of the Android operating system, the so-called Emotion UI.
Huawei’s ‘MagicTouch’ technology will allow users to operate the smartphone even whilst wearing gloves, whilst propriety software promises to boost the smartphone's camera with wild talk of “object tracing focus and instant facial beauty support.”
The P6 is expected to feature an 8 megapixel camera on the back, and a 5 megapixel camera on the front, with a 720p, 4.2-inch display and a 1.5GHz quad-core processor. 8GB of internal storage and 2GB of RAM complete the phone.
Whilst the handset’s technical specifications are not enough to challenge the latest models from Apple or Smasung, the P6’s price might offer consumers pause for thought – expected to retail at £25 a month (compared to £35 a month for its main rivals).
The P6 will launch only on 3G networks though Huawei have promised a 4G model for later in the year. Richard Yu, the chief Executive Officer of Huawei, described it as a “star among smartphones”.
The P6 will be available in black, white and pink. It will ship to the UK in June to be sold through Orange, O2, the Carphone Warehouse, TalkTalk, Vodafone and Amazon.
