Facebook reportedly down across site and mobile app

Facebook isn't working, the site has confirmed.

A post on its developer site says that it is aware of an issue and is investigating it, but suggests that it has no fix at the moment.

"We are currently experiencing an increased level of API errors," it posted on the status page. "We are investigating the cause and we'll post updates when we have more information."

The specific and detailed nature of the problem probably explains why only some users are seeing the issues, and why it is only appearing on some parts of the site. In particular, some people are posting statuses and then finding they have disappeared.

At the time of publication, the page said the problems started two hours earlier and described them as "ongoing".

The last update was posted two minutes before publication, and read "We are continuing to work on resolving this issue. We will share further updates soon."

Facebook rarely goes down. But since it is used by more than a million people and by news organisations and companies around the world, any outage can have huge consequences, even if the site and app are only broken for a few minutes.
