Apple is gearing up to launch its biggest phone ever – a huge version of the iPhone X.

That's according to a new report that also claims it is developing a more accessible, cheaper version of the flagship phone with some of its headline features.

New colours are also expected. Apple is rumoured to be considering the release of a gold version of the iPhone X – a colour that every iPhone up until the 8 came in, but which has been eschewed for the X in favour of more conservative white and black options.

In all, there will be three phones released this year, according to the report from Bloomberg. They will include a big version of the iPhone X, an upgraded one with new hardware, and a cheaper one that retains some of the same features.

The report suggested that Apple hopes to push Apple sales by rolling out the bigger new phones. The same thing happened when Apple released the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus – much bigger than the ones that had preceded them, driving a rush of new upgrades from people who had been waiting for Apple to bring out a model at the "phablet" size.

The iPhone X Plus would be much bigger than the current large phone offered by Apple. The iPhone X currently sits somewhere between the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus in terms of size – and the new, bigger phone would have a screen size of 6.5 inches, roughly the same size as the 8 Plus but with much more of its front taken up with screen.

As well as without doubt being the biggest of Apple's iPhones, it's also likely to be the most expensive. The iPhone X already broke through the £999 barrier, and Apple currently charges a £100 premium for the iPhone 8 Plus over its smaller sibling.

But at the same time Apple is expected to release a cheaper version of the phone, in the place of the slightly more inexpensive iPhone 8. That will take most of the design from the X, but will leave out some of the more expensive features such as its OLED screen.
