Lizard Squad threatens more attacks and Malaysia Airlines data release after Facebook and Instagram hacks

Group took down Malaysia Airlines site and claims to have accessed personal details, though company denies it

The group that claimed responsibility for taking Facebook and Instagram offline this morning have threatened more attacks as the social networks came back online.

The group has threatened to release personal data found during a hack on Malaysia Airlines yesterday. They also said there was “more to come soon”.

In a statement released yesterday, Malaysia Airlines said that all user data was secure after the cyberattack. It said that hackers had re-directed its site to a different URL, and not affected the site itself.

“Malaysia Airlines assures customers and clients that its website was not hacked and this temporary glitch does not affect their bookings and that user data remains secured,” it said in a statement.

As well as Facebook and Instagram, Lizard Squad claimed to have dating app Tinder and messaging services AIM and Hipchat. It implied that it would have taken down Twitter, had it not needed it to communicate.

Lizard Squad’s Twitter account has become a central point of information on the attacks, with the group using it to take credit for taking down websites and services as well as to play out arguments with other hackers.

The group also claimed credit for taking down the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live at Christmas, leaving some services down for a week.
