New Xbox One: Microsoft announces new console in UK, with more memory and new controller

Console was apparently accidentally announced by Amazon over the weekend

Microsoft has officially announced a new Xbox One console, featuring a redesigned control and extra storage.

The console was expected to be made available at Microsoft’s event at the E3 gaming conference later this month. Its existence was confirmed last week by an accidental post on Amazon’s website.

The redesigned Xbox will be available for £349, as well as being sold in bundles, and the existing 500GB consoles will be knocked down to £299. In the UK, the console will be sold exclusively by Game until June 20.

The console features an upgraded hard drive, taking it to 1TB in total. And the controllers has been redesigned too, adding a built in 3.5-mm headphone jack.

The new headphone jack means that gamers can plug headsets straight into the consoler itself. And the controllers have been more generally redesigned, improving the bumpers and allowing the controllers to receive software updates wirelessly, rather than requiring them to be plugged into the consoler over USB.

The new console will be available for purchase on its own by from late summer, Microsoft said. There will also be a new camouflage design that will be sold from June 16.

The Amazon post appeared last week and was taken down shortly after. It revealed all of the specs of the new console, but appeared to indicate that it would be launched immediately after Microsoft’s E3 event, on June 15.
