Samsung Galaxy S8 ‘Mini’ could be the best small phone on the market

It will cost less than the company's current flagship too, according to reports

Samsung is set to release a smaller and cheaper version of the Galaxy S8, it has been reported.

Its latest flagship smartphones, the S8 and S8+, came out earlier this year and feature 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch screens, respectively.

Both handsets rock a “bezel-less” design, with Samsung managing to maximise screen-to-body ratio by squeezing as large a display as possible into an unusually compact body.

Having spent time using both devices, I found that the S8+ was unnecessarily large.

The S8 ‘Mini’ Samsung is claimed to be working on could actually prove more appealing to many consumers than the original releases, despite being slightly less powerful.

It will feature a 5.3-inch display, claims IT Home, though it will actually feel like a 4.7-inch handset, thanks to that “bezel-less” design.

This should make it easy to use one-handed, something that can’t be said about the S8+ and, to an extent, the S8.

The S8 is the most attractive smartphone on the market at present, and the S8 Mini is said to look exactly the same, only smaller.

It’s said to feature the same 12-megapixel camera too, which should satisfy the majority of consumers, as well as iris-scanning technology.

However, the S8 Mini is expected to come with a Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, a slight step down from the S8’s Snapdragon 835 processor and 64GB of internal storage.

That’s not a combination to be sniffed at, however, as it matches the excellent Google Pixel, and that storage will be expandable via a microSD card slot.

It will likely keep prices relatively low too. The S8 costs £689, and the S8 Plus costs a staggering £779.

Samsung has released mini variants of its flagship smartphones in the past, but they’ve tended to be significantly pared-down options. The S8 Mini sounds very different.

The company is yet to confirm or deny the existence of the Galaxy S8 Mini, which is claimed to be coming out later this year, but we should gain a clearer understanding of its plans in the next few weeks.
