Tinder update: dating app adds new information to profiles alongside new algorithm to avoid bad matches

Profiles will now show job and education details, and the system will use that and more information in an aim to make matches more compatible

Tinder has released a huge new update to its app that is intended to help people get more meaningful matches.

The app will add a new algorithm and extra information to profiles in an attempt to make — and perhaps undo some of its reputation as a casual sex app.

First, the app has a new algorithm to help people find each other. The algorithm is intended to help people make more meaningful connections, and the company claims that it will lead to more compatible matches.

“With the updated algorithm, machine learning technology assesses and interprets the signals sent by our millions of users,” said Ogle in a statement. “With our ears even closer to the ground, we provide users with the most relevant potential matches to result in more meaningful connections – just as we’ve seen with the introduction of the Super Like, which has increased the quality of matches and lengthened conversations.”

Once those connections are made, new updated profiles will show, which can pull in job and education information, in an attempt to give people “more informed choices” when they’re deciding which way to swipe. If two users worked at the same place or went to the same university, for instance, that will show up in the page.

The messaging interface that is then used to talk to people has also been overhauled. It has been simplified so that people can more easily track their conversations, and will separate new matches that people haven’t spoken to from those that they have talked to before.
