Freeview down: TV not working in the UK because of 'high air pressure', company says

There's nothing that the company can do and people will just have to wait for the weather to pass

TVs across the country have stopped working, according to their users.

Strange weather is causing Freeview to go down and leave people in the UK unable to watch television, according to multiple reports.

The problems are particularly focused in the south of England, according to the website Downdetector. But some problems are being seen across the country, though mostly focused in England.

The problems appear to have begun overnight, around the same time the final of the Great British Bake Off was airing. That programme had already been blighted by problems, after presenter Prue Leith revealed its winner – and then some people were unable to watch it at all.

Because the problems are the result of the weather, they can't be fixed until the climate changes, according to Freeview. "We're unable to remedy this," it wrote on its website.

"TV and radio signals can be affected by atmospheric conditions, including high air pressure (which brings fine weather), heavy rain or snow. We're aware that high air pressure is currently affecting TV and radio signals for some viewers," it said in a statement.

Some people reported that the problems had knocked out all of their TV entirely. Others said it just seemed to be a problem with some channels.
