After much demand from users, Xbox has allowed gamers to completely re-map their controllers in all games in the latest Xbox One update.

Controller re-mapping, or changing the function of each button on the controller, was easy to do on the Xbox 360, but was left out of the One's features at launch.

Microsoft has now righted that wrong, allowing players switch the functions of any two buttons - it's useful for players who want to make minor changes to their experience, but as The Verge points out, it could also be a godsend for disabled or physically impaired gamers, who may find it difficult to use the controller's rear buttons.

It'll also come in handy for professionals (or wannabes) who want to get a real advantage over the competition.

Things on the pricey $150 'Elite' controller are even more advanced - the only buttons that need to be assigned at all are A and B, giving users even more freedom to remap their controls and even assign multiple commands to a single button.

Most games offer some degree of remapping, but it's different in each - this update will allow you to choose universal settings, which will apply regardless of what you're doing on your console.
