Twitter introduces significantly larger animated GIF sizes

But only on the web

Good news for GIF fans – Twitter has announced that it’s increasing its GIF size limit.

The site's maximum GIF size has been upped to 15 MB, three times larger than the file size currently supported.

It should be noted, though, that this increase is only on the web with mobile remaining at a maximum of 5 MB. Photo uploads on mobile and web are also staying at a 5 MB maximum.

Whether this change is much-needed or not will depend on your feelings towards GIFs and their use on Twitter, but the change does follow the company’s recent attempts to loosen media limitations on the site and make it easier to post non-text content.

Twitter recently stopped including images, videos, and usernames in the 140 character limit as well as increasing its video size limit significantly from 30 seconds to 140 seconds.

There isn't any news just yet on what file sizes external posting applications like TweetDeck will support, but these platforms are generally slightly slower when it comes to keeping up with Twitter's updates so more information should come at a later date.
