The ten best large eco cars

By David Wilkins

Big cars will never be as green as the best small cars but some big cars are greener than others.

If you really need the space and comfort of a larger vehicle, choose one of these and at least you'll limit the damage a bit.

Green Cars

I have a problem with the trend towards hybrid and other cars which do not require fossil fuels.
To investigate alterantive means of propulsion is good. To charge the consumer premium prices for these vehicles over and above what we are accustomed to is merely making the consumer fund R&D. If manufacturers, and I mean corporate shareholders, are really serious about offering eco friendly vehicles, let them pay for their own R&D. It's enough that motor vehicles are prohibitively expensive, but to move the cost of development to the consumer is adding insult to injury. Look at the state GM is in! Who will bale them out of their mess? The consumer, of course! It is time that the consumer votes with his/her wallet. We don't have to buy the latest model, we don't have to keep up with the Jones's, we don't have to pose as affluent. What's the real point. I don't give a continental that my neighbour might have more money in the bank! Is he a better person? Mony doesn't buy decency.
What we need is an awareness campaign so that the consumer is sufficiently well informed. In the meantime I'm happy to drive my gas gauzzling little 1974 Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.0 lit. GT, that I love to bits, and be able to give car manufactureres the one finger salute!!!.
If you want my support, show me some credible facts. I'm still happy driving my Alfa Romeo. I have 4 of them! Why would I buy a new car, which is the same price as a house? I would buy another house and invest in property, not in auto R&D!!!!

Conventional cars just have a combustion engine. Hybrids have a combustion engine and an electric motor. So they cost more in the same way that eggs and bacon cost more than just eggs.

So you dont want to buy a new car, that is cleaner for the enviornment, to show how much money you have. Instead you buy 4 antique cars that have very large co2 emissions and damage the enviornment. You're giving the one finger salute to just about everyone then so? Money certainly doesnt buy you any decency!

There is still much mention, in these brief reviews, of CO2 output. Why no mention of nitrous oxides? These are over 30 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide yet, as far as I know, only one car makes a selling point of reducing its NOx emissions - the Toyota Avensis DCat.
