Kia aims to have fully autonomous cars on sale by 2030.

The company announced its goal at the Consumer Electronics Show as it launched its new Drive Wise brand, which will cover future technologies such as hands-off cruise control and lane keeping systems which react to their surroundings.

Vehicle owners will interact with Drive Wise tech through a mixture of apps and gesture control.


 Drive Wise functions will include programme to halt vehicle if the driver falls asleep

Their cars will identify them through fingerprint recognition – instantly loading their software preferences as they climb aboard.

Drive Wise functions will also include self-parking and a safety programme designed to halt the vehicle if the driver falls asleep.

Kia says the Drive Wise brand will bring advanced safety functions to future models, as well as alleviating the boredom of long journeys and encouraging owners to relate to their cars in a whole new way.

The company was recently licensed by the state of Nevada to test autonomous cars on the road, and has started running a hands-free Soul there as the next step on the way to bringing these technologies to market.
