Harry Potter fans mourning the death of Alan Rickman have been laying flowers, photos and other tributes at Platform 9¾ at King's Cross station, London.

The treasured actor played Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films, in which Platform 9¾ is a magical platform for the Hogwarts Express.

People shared pictures of the tribute on social media, with one commenting: "So much love for our Snape".

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling shared her tribute to Rickman, as did Harry Potter costars Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe.

Radcliffe called Rickman "undoubtedly one of the greatest actors I will ever work with" and "the loyalest and most supportive people I've ever met in the film industry".

I'm very sad to hear about Alan today. I feel so lucky to have worked and spent time with such a special man and actor. I'll really miss our conversations. RIP Alan. We love you
