Home Alone actor, Macaulay Culkin, says he has "essentially retired" at the age of 35, preferring to steer clear of the limelight.

The former child star claims he now spends many of his days painting, writing in notebooks and “whatevering”.

Culkin has dropped off the radar in recent years, maintaining a low profile. As such, he says he prefers to go for walks in the early hours of the morning to avoid being recognised by the public.

“I’m a man in his mid-30s who’s essentially retired. I kind of go where the wind takes me a little bit,” Culkin told New York Magazine.

“I’ll take walks at two or four in the morning, because there’s nobody out on the streets and it’s easy for me to go unnoticed."

Thrust headfirst into the world of showbusiness at the age of four, Culkin quickly rose to fame for playing Kevin McCallister in Home Alone in the nineties. The New York-born actor was widely regarded as the most successful child actor since Shirley Temple. But other than appearing at a number of comic cons and going on the occasional tour with his comedy rock band The Pizza Underground, Culkin has kept out of the public eye in recent years.

Now spending his time between New York and France, Culkin says he isn’t subject to the same undue attention or hassle from members of the public in France.

“It turned out that no, they recognised me, they just didn’t care. I was like, “where have you people been my entire life?”
