Man to face trial over £300,000 fraud

A 45-year-old man will stand trial next year in a £300,000 fraud case.

Faisal Madani is accused of obtaining goods, services and criminal property totalling £316,485 through fraudulently using credit cards between October 2007 and October 2009.

He denied 11 counts of fraud, three counts of possession of false identity documents with intent, two counts of possession of articles for use in fraud and a further count of acquiring criminal property when he appeared at London's Southwark Crown Court today.

Judge Anthony Pitts fixed a trial date for February 7 next year.

Madani, of Highwoods, Colchester, is on bail.

Madani faces 11 counts of fraud totalling 362,984 US dollars (£231,787) relating to nine American Express credit cards.

He is also accused of acquiring £84,698.17 through the fraudulent use of 103 credit cards, and of possessing six lists of personal credit card numbers for a total of 36 cards for use in fraud.

He is also charged with possessing a forged Greek passport in Colchester, Essex, on September 3 last year with the intent of using it to set up a bank account.

Madani, who wore a beige suit and brown tie in the dock, denies all the charges.
