A body has been found in the search for a Royal Marine who went missing during a run in the hills, Police Scotland has confirmed.

A large-scale hunt was launched after 20-year-old Luke Ireland disappeared in Glen Clova, Angus.

His father raised the alarm two hours later when his son did not return home from his run on Thursday afternoon.

Mr Ireland, a serving marine with Arbroath-based 45 Commando, was visiting the Glen Clova Hotel with family.

He had headed off in a running vest and shorts towards Loch Brandy at around 12.30pm and had not been seen since.

A total of 240 people - including Royal Marines and rescue teams from Braemar and Tayside - took part in the search, which continued through the night.

Police dogs and a RAF helicopter were also involved in the hunt. Police Scotland said a body was recovered at about 1pm today.

The body has not yet been formally identified.
