A parking warden who says he was sacked for refusing to issue large numbers of tickets is claiming unfair dismissal.

Hakim Berkani, 45, was sacked for gross misconduct last February by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea's parking contractor, NSL, for tipping off a driver who was about to be given a ticket by another warden. Mr Berkani, from Wandsworth, told an employment tribunal in Holborn that "favours" were awarded to wardens who handed out the most tickets.

A spokesman for NSL said: "We are very strictly regulated to ensure any tickets issued are legitimate."
