A bridge player accused of murdering his wife threatened to throw her off a balcony during a card session a year before her death, a jury heard.

Preston Crown Court heard that Stephen Green, 52, aimed a torrent of abuse at his wife Carole, 57, as they played bridge with a couple at their seaside home in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire.

Mr Green is alleged to have stabbed his wife to death amid bickering about her playing abilities at Lytham Bridge Club. Mrs Green's body was discovered at their home on 18 January. Her husband, who denies murder, was found lying in the bath with cuts to his wrist. The trial continues.
