The worst drought to hit the Channel islands in 34 years is threatening significantly to cut the Jersey Royal potato crop, growers have warned.

The drought could cut the first yield by 50 per cent, with forecasters not predicting rain for another two weeks, the Jersey Royal Company said. Jersey has not had significant rainfall since 3 April, with just 2mm falling last weekend when much of the UK received downpours.
