Kind train passenger leaves £100 on sleeping woman's lap after overhearing money worries
'After a terrible 18 months where I lost my father, it showed me that there is kindness in the world,' says Ella Johannessen
A woman has thanked a stranger who left £100 on her lap as she slept on train, after overhearing her discussing her money problems on the phone to her mother.
Ella Johannessen said she was "stressed and upset" as she discussed her financial situation on her journey from Peterborough to Leeds.
She wrote in a Facebook post that she "was trying to locate what had [happened] to £35 that had been sent to me over a bank transfer."
She added: “I spoke to her about how little money I had, how worried I was about my finances and I got upset.”
After she finished her phone call she went to sleep.
“I woke up about half an hour later and noticed a napkin on my lap,” she wrote. “Under the napkin was £100. I started to cry — this is because I was incredibly thankful for your kindness to someone you don’t even know.
“After a terrible 18 months where I lost my father and both of his parents it showed me that there is kindness and good people in the world."
Ms Johannessen thanked the stranger and vowed to “pass on” the act of kindness.
“I hope you will eventually see this,” she added.
Her post has been shared more than 15,500 times, but Ms Johannessen said she has not found the stranger who left her the money.
