Man arrested as hunt for severed head continues
(First Edition)
A 37-year-old man was arrested yesterday in connection with murder of James Edwardson, 68, whose headless body was found at his home in Corby, Northamptonshire, earlier this week.
The body of Mr Edwardson, the kitchen floor and a number of bloodstained knives were found near by. The severed head has still not been found.
Yesterday Mr Edwardson's family expressed fears that the killer could target them. Police revealed that his five daughters and son had received a number of verbal and telephone threats during the past month.
Detective Superintendent Ron Beards, who is leading the ily are still in a traumatised state and are paranoid that they too could be targets.'
'I share their concern. This is an appalling situation for them to be in and we are doing what we can to support them.'
He declined to say whether Mr Edwardson's children and their own families were under police protection.
He said police were investigating positive lines of inquiry into the source of the threats which were of a general nature and not made against any one individual.
