Downing Street played host to a tense stand-off this morning – between the Prime Minister's cat and a police sniffer dog.

The spectacle entertained reporters waiting for something to happen on Downing Street this morning.

One BBC journalist captured footage of a third party entering the mix - a dashing fox.


Journalists were waiting for the Prime Minister to leave his residence to visit the Queen at Buckingham Palace today to dissolve Parliament.

The animals met on the steps of Number Ten

The traditional journey down the Mall marks the official start of the 2015 general election campaign, which kicks off today.
