Nine-year-old girl saves three siblings from blazing fire after being left 'home alone'

A nine-year-old girl is being praised for rescuing her three siblings from a fire, while her mother’s boyfriend has been charged with failing to take care of the youngsters.

Police said the youngster, who has not been identified, was able to usher her three siblings to safety when fire broke out at their home in Hall County, Georgia.

Police said they were called to the girl’s house after officers were informed of a fire at a mobile home. The person who placed the 911 call feared that people were trapped inside the property.

When officers arrived, they found four children, who had been left alone at the time of the fire, the Associated Press said.

The oldest child told officers she had woken up to heavy smoke filling the home. She ran to her siblings' bedroom and grabbed her one-year-old brother and three-year-old sister, who had been sleeping.

She took them to a neighbour’s house and placed her own call to the emergency services. She then went back inside the blazing property to get her brother. Investigators said as they were attempting to locate the children's parents, Gregorio Garcia-Gomez, 38, arrived at the home.

Reports said he is the boyfriend of the children’s mother and had left them sleeping inside the home to go pick up their mom from work.

Mr Garcia-Gomez was charged with cruelty to children and taken to the Hall County jail where his bond was set at $9,600. ​

Officers said the children were taken to hospital and since released.

The cause of the fire is unknown. An investigation is underway.
