Spectators hurt during 'Wild West shootout'

Three tourists have been injured during a staged Wild West shootout between "lawmen and outlaws", after one of the participants loaded his pistol with live ammunition instead of blanks.

The incident took place in Hill City, South Dakota, during a performance by the Dakota Wild Bunch. One of its members, Paul Doering, 49, has been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, after it was discovered he had several criminal convictions and had spent time in jail.

Three spectators were hurt in the incident on 17 June, although none seriously. Police recovered three bullets fired during the re-enactment, all of which came from Doering's gun. It is not thought he used the live rounds intentionally.
