Keith and Robin Transue admitted guilt in the 'bizarre' double plot (Monroe County District Attorney's Office)

A police officer has admitted to blackmailing his wife over her sexual encounters with a 14-year-old boy, after detectives told him she was plotting his murder.

Keith Transue told investigators that he used his knowledge of his wife Robin Transue's “multiple” sexual encounters with the teen to stop her leaving him.

Meanwhile, Robin pled guilty to felony solicitation to commit aggravated assault and statutory sexual assault.

Prosecutors called the case “bizarre”.

First Assistant District Attorney (DA) Michael Mancuso said Robin tried to persuade a mutual friend, Richard Warner, to shoot her husband in a “hunting accident”.

She and spoke openly to him about an alternative plan to fake his suicide using drugs, he said.

He added that she "freely talked about arranging for her husband’s murder,” and "all kinds of potential death scenarios were discussed.”

Prosecutors said Keith Transue failed to report the abuse, which took place in 2010, when he learned about it. He was legally obliged to do as a police officer in Pennsylvania‘s Bushkill Township.

Mr Mancuso said he was "using his wife’s crime to keep her from leaving or divorcing him."

He added: "This in turn was essentially the motive for Robin soliciting Keith’s murder.

“As problems in the marriage continued to mount, Robin became more desperate. She had looked up the statute of limitations for her sexual crimes and realised the time wasn’t close to running out."

In a statement Mr Mancuso's office said she plotted to use her husband’s history of depression to fake his suicide.

“She had a whole new future picked out” for life after his death," it added,

However, Mr Warner agreed to wear a wire and recorded several meetings with Transue.

Mr Mancuso’s office continued in its statement: “Robin is heard telling Warner that she took Keith to the psychologist and she made it look like she was a concerned and a caring wife.

“She said, ‘It would not take much for us to make it look like a suicide.’ She goes on saying that she has been telling friends that they are working on their marriage and it’s a good possibility they will get back together, making it look like she cares.

“She explains that they were at the Crossing Outlet Stores and she would hold his hand and each time she saw a camera she would hug him to make her look good.”

The police department placed Keith Transue on leave after the charges were filed. He has since submitted his resignation.

Mr Mancuso praised Mr Warner, saying he “likely prevented a homicide and also brought to light a sordid history of sexual assault and criminal coercion” by informing police.

The Transues pleaded guilty last week. The 43-year-olds, from Mount Pocono, will be sentenced in March.
