Britons survive Thailand plane crash

Two Britons were among those injured and taken to hospital after a plane crashed at an airport on a Thai holiday island today.

The pair were travelling with the Preston-based Gold Medal holiday company, which is part of the Thomas Cook group.

Gold Medal said that, although they had suffered "some injuries", it was understood they would make a full recovery from the accident, in which a pilot was killed and many passengers injured.

The two Britons were among 68 passengers on board a Bangkok Airways ATR72 aircraft flying from the resort of Krabi in southern Thailand.

Arriving at the airport on the island of Koh Samui, the plane skidded off the runway in wet weather and crashed into a disused control tower.

A Gold Medal spokeswoman said: "Gold Medal can confirm that it had two passengers on board the Bangkok Airways flight PG266 which skidded off the runway at Koh Samui airport this morning.

"Both have been transferred to local hospitals where we have made contact with them and, while they have sustained some injuries, we understand they will make a full recovery.

"Our local representative has visited them and we will be offering all the help and support possible during this time."

Later, Gold Medal said the injured Britons - a man and a woman - who were initially taken to separate hospitals were now in the same hospital.
