Wind turbine noise suspected of killing 400 goats

Reuters

Late-night noise from spinning wind turbines on an outlying island of Taiwan may have killed 400 goats over the past three years by depriving them of sleep, an agricultural inspection official said on Thursday.

After the eight turbines were installed in the notoriously windy Penghu archipelago in the Taiwan Strait, a neighbouring farmer reported that his goats had started dying, Council of Agriculture inspection official Lu Ming-tseng said.

"If noise at night can keep people awake, then it could also keep the goats awake, and when the wind kicks up it makes a louder noise," Lu said.

Agricultural authorities would make tests to rule out any other causes of death, Lu said, adding that if the giant power-generating turbines proved to be at fault, Taiwan Power had promised to compensate the farmer.

Fit larger turbines

The larger the turbine, the slower it turns. Multi-mega watt turbines spin at around 10 to 12 rpm - these are typically used in commercial wind farms. The smaller turbines spin much faster and can be quite noisy.

Report author doesnt say how large the Taiwanese turbines were! I suspect that may be xxx Kw turbines.
Standing under a Wind Turbine

Having heard that turbines are noisy, I went out to hear for myself. It was a really windy day on the mountainside, with the wind howling in our ears. A mile away we couldn't hear anyting unusual. As we walked closer, I don't think the noise of the wind in our ears got any louder. Standing underneath the turbine, I couln't make out any other noise, other than the incessant wind we'd experienced all along. Living in the west of Ireland, I certainly don't fear the encroaching Windturbines! Hopefully, soon, we will also have pumped lakes/damms, to function as energy buffers, when the wind is silent.
... more green crap.

turbines are a frickin' waste. wake the hell up, there is no danger with nuclear power. if we don't immediately develop nuclear power right now, we're going to start seeing a lot of people around the world dying. nuclear power is the only energy source with a dense enough amount of energy to desalinate water AND provide electricity... that cannot be done with solar. nuclear is the only sensible choice, and it can be rolled out NOW! don't listen to the oligarchy, to the elites, they want to see 80% of us die... if you believe this is good and in population control, then you condone genocide!
