The 21-year-old sister of Home and Away actress Jessica Falkholt has died after a car crash on Boxing Day that also killed both their parents.

Annabelle Falkholt was initially pulled alive from the wreckage of car but died at Liverpool Hospital in Sydney on Friday morning.

Jessica is said to be in a stable condition after undergoing surgery for internal injuries but remains in a coma.

The 28-year-old actress had been travelling home from Christmas celebrations with her family when they were involved in a head-on crash on the Princes Highway at Mondayong in the South Coast, a region in New South Wales.

Her parents, Lars, 69, and Vivian Falkholt, 60, were killed instantly – as was the driver of the other vehicle, 50-year-old Craig Anthony Whitall.

Witnesses allegedly told police they saw Mr Whitall's car veer over the central line of the road twice before crashing into the Falkholts.

A cousin of the sisters told the Daily Mail Australia that the family had gathered around Annabelle's bedside to say goodbye on Friday morning.

They said: "Annabelle passed away this morning, we knew what was happening so family were with her.

"Her and Jessica had such a strong sister bond. They are seriously close sisters. I feel Jessica would have known her sister has passed."

They paid tribute to the nursery worker saying she was "very nurturing. She was very caring and she just loved children... she is such a kind girl."

Jessica is best known for playing Hope Morrison in the Australian soap opera during 2016 and was said to be on the "brink" of stardom after landing roles in a US thriller and an Australian police drama.

She is currently unaware that her parents and sister have been killed.

Speaking about her condition, her cousin said: "Jessica just came out of a major operation and that went well."

"The quick update is the op went better than expected. They were doing work on her arm and internal injuries, they were the main parts."
